Come join other young adults as we make a difference in our church and our community through our learning and our actions. This is a group of young adults who are out of high school and walking their own walk with Christ in their own way. The group includes young adults already in the workforce as well as students attending local community colleges, nearby universities and some who are away at colleges with roots in Pittsboro Baptist Church. If you are unable to attend in person we welcome those away at college to study along with our study guides and our email contact group. If you don't have a church home, join in whether you can physically be here or not.
The PBJ110 name comes from Jeremiah 1:10. Pittsboro Baptist young adults know that God has great plans for the difference they can make so come join in!! For more info contact us at

The P and 3 t's - Your Technique of Worship |
|
This week we continued talking about the big P and the 3 t's. First, an overview of what the heck we are talking about.
First, the big P - The P stands for Purpose. If you don't really have a purpose or passion to develop a relationship with God, then no matter how much you know about how to get started, you just won't be able to follow through. So get that right. And don't kid yourself... just because you think about it or 'want' it does not mean you have a true passion to get to this destinations of having that relationship. Think of something you really have a passion for. Folks will have a hard time of keeping you from focsuing on that thing... it is where your time goes; your thoughts drift back to that; you hang out with folks with the same interest. But just sitting around stresssing about wanting to do something is not the same thing.
There is a story about a chicken and a pig who were friends. They were thinking of starting ar restaurant. The chicken was in charge of coming up with a name and he did. He suggested the name "Ham and Eggs". The pig objected of the new company name stating "As a pig, I would be committed and you would only be involved". So think of your passion for developing this really great relationship along these lines. Are you a chicken or a pig? Will you give some eggs... or offer up some ham?
Now for the T's - The three T's stand for Time, Team and Technique. If you focus on setting aside time, developing some 'skills' and consider the team around you who will help make you accountable and call you out when you are not staying on track, you will have success. We discussed time management some last week. This week we talked a little on Technique.
Technique take aways - Here are a few things to consider is you are really a 'pig' for Christ and want to learn how to get a better relationship with Him.

The week of August 14th - Forgiven |
This past Sunday we covered Chapter 5 in Discovering Your Identify in Christ. We have been working to understand what it means to be a Christian. When someone asks you "Who are you?" we can think of all sorts of answers. I am tall, or dark haired, or mostly happy, or a soccer player. But as Christians we figured out the best answer is to say we are In Christ. Over the past few weeks we have been learning a little about what that means.
As a Christian, we learned we are chosen. God adopted us which has significant meaning as God first had a plan for us and then created us to fulfill that plan. He makes no accidents. He will never disown us. Then we learned that God loves us. He loves us unconditionally. There is nothing we can do to earn His love and there is nothing we can do to make Him stop. But we must accept His love and if we do step into a loving relationship with God, we cannot help but love others. 1 John chapter 4 is a great quick read when you wonder about God's love. But realize it is impossible to truly love God and not love others so if we say we love God and then treat others badly, we are liars.
Last week we talked about God's forgiveness. There are some great verses in the book on forgiveness and redemption. We put a small rock in our shoe and were challenged to walk around with that rock for a while. The rock can represent our sins that we do not lay before God, but it more than likely represents those who we have not forgiven. Read Matthew 18:21-35 for a reference. It is a familiar parable, but reminds us that as God forgives us we must forgive others. It is not our job as Christians to forgive others and love others. It is not something that should require strong will power. If we truly love God and develop a good relationship with Him we will be compelled to not sin, to forgive others and to love others.
So what does this have to do with discovering our identity? We are learning that we need to focus on getting our relationship right with God. If we invest time and energy into learning about Him, being with Him, hanging out with His friends... we will not have to spend near as much energy trying to force ourselves to do the right thing. It will be our natural

Fall Fling at Jordan Lake |
|

It was great to have everyone out to Jordan Lake for our first ever picnic/beach volleyball shootout/chicken fight showdown/cornhole invitational. We are including a few pictures here. I am sorry we were all too busy being competitive to get action shots of the big volleyball shootout, but we saw great emotional leadership from Ramiro; a strong serve from Will; several great sprints to save the ball from the lake by Chris; and not a single person was harmed in this event. Because I am putting the stuff on the website, I am choosing not to mention who won.
Thanks to all who came out and joined in the fun and fellowship. See you in class Sunday at 9:30am. Bring a friend who needs some of that God lovin'!! To see more pictures, just click read more...

See what you missed last week... |
|

If you missed our class last week or just want a refresher on what you heard, this is the place to be.
We are studying Charles Stanley's Discovering Your Identity in Christ. So far we have learned that as Christians, the only real answer to the question "Who are you?" has nothing to do with our hair color or the sports we play or the place we went to school or whether we like puppies and long walks on the beach at sunset. As Christians, the only real answer to the question, "Who are you?" is that we are IN CHRIST.
Then we learned that we are chosen. We talked about how God has chosen us. God first thought of a purpose for us, and then he molded us to fit the need He had in mind. No one is an accident or a mistake. We are all not designed to be a missionary or minister, but we all have a place in God's plan and we have had it from before we were born.
This past week we talked about God's Love. Look at 1 John chapter 4, especially as translated in The Message (use BibleGateway.com if you don't have that translation). We all know God loved Christ. Most would agree that God loves us most of the time. But the fact is God cannot stop loving us. We did nothing to deserve God's love and we can do nothing to make Him stop loving us. But we have to remember our part.
